Principal Instructors
Kryla's Principal Instructor since 1986 has been Mr.
Nathaniel Ostashewski. Nathaniel's passion for staged Ukrainian
dance has been a lifelong commitment having participated in all aspects
of Ukrainian dance in Alberta - as a student with Chester Kuc, a dancer
with the Cheremosh
Ukrainian Dancers, an instructor for 20+ years instructing Andrew,
Lac La Biche, Lamont, Cold Lake, and Bonnyville Ukrainian dance groups,
and since 2004 as the current president of the Alberta
Ukrainian Dance Association. Mr.
Ostashewski lives in the Bonnyville, Alberta area with his wife and
children, and is a high school media arts teacher who recently completed
his Masters in Education degree. During his many years as a dance
instructor Mr. Ostashewski has attended many choreographic
seminars in Canada and in the Ukraine, continuing to develop a
choreographic style that represents both Ukrainian and Canadian
influences. Nathaniel's
commitment to young dancers has resulted in many opportunities for Kryla
over the years. Many new regional styles, Tours, festivals,
performances, and a Malanka second to none are cornerstones of his
dance leadership since 1986. Organizing and instructing dance
camps, bringing in guest choreographers, and teaching other styles of
folk dance with the Canadian Folk Dancers are all parts of how Mr.
Ostashewski continues to help Kryla evolve!
